According to the data released by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Türkiye got 250 million dollars revenue from accommodation tax (It is know in Europe as city tax) in 2023.

According to a report on Tourzm DataBank, this figure reached  2.5 times more than budged of Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), surpassing estimates and ministry statements.

The highest tax amounts were collected during the period from June to November, with the highest amount recorded in September with 50 million dollars.

The accommodation tax covers services provided in accommodation facilities such as hotels, motels, resorts, pensions, apartment hotels, guesthouses, campgrounds, mountain houses, plateau houses, including overnight services and services offered within the accommodation facility (such as food, drinks, activities, entertainment services, and the use of facilities like pools, sports, thermal, and similar areas), regardless of the nationality or residence of the service recipient.

The accommodation tax, which is applied at a rate of 2 percent, is calculated based on the service fee excluding VAT, and it is required to be separately indicated on the invoice.

Note: Unlike examples in Europe and around the world, in Türkiye, the collected accommodation tax is transferred to the central budget rather than local authorities.
