The report prepared by data and analytics firm STR for the Turkish Hoteliers Association (TÜROB) indicated that hotel occupancies across Türkiye in December saw a 7.7% decrease to 53.1% compared to the same period in 2022. In the corresponding period of 2022, hotel occupancies were at 57.5%, and in 2019, they were at 60.7%.

In December, the average daily rate (ADR) for hotels nationwide was recorded at 103.82 euros, with revenue per available room (RevPAR) at 55.14 euros.

Throughout 2023, the overall hotel occupancy rate in Türkiye stood at 59.1%, with the average daily rate at 129.17 euros, and revenue per available room at 76.36 euros. Hotel occupancies were recorded at 66.6% in 2022 and at 67.2% in the same period of 2019.

In European destinations, hotel occupancies in December were at 61.1%, with the average daily rate at 135.71 euros, and revenue per available room at 82.88 euros.

Hotel occupancies fall in İstanbul

During this period, Istanbul hotels saw an 8.5% decrease to 60.2% compared to the previous year. The average daily rate in December 2022 saw a 14.8% decrease to 124.01 euros. Revenue per available room in December experienced a 22.1% decrease to 74.71 euros compared to the same period in 2022.

For the January-December period, the occupancy rate of hotels in Istanbul was recorded at 65.2%. In 2023, the average daily rate was 143.46 euros, with revenue per available room at 93.52 euros.

In 2002, hotel occupancies in Istanbul were at 74.06% with the average daily rate at 136.42 euros, and revenue per available room at 101.82 euros.

Hotel occupancies in Antalya

In December, hotel occupancies in Antalya decreased by 10.9% to 41.7% compared to the same period in 2022. During this period, the average daily rate saw a 20.7% increase to 83.55 euros, with revenue per available room experiencing a 7.5% increase to 34.87 euros.

In 2023, hotel occupancies in Antalya were at 56.2%, with the average daily rate at 172.80 euros, and revenue per available room at 96.79 euros.

In 2002, hotel occupancies in Antalya were at 62.1%, with the average daily rate at 144.18 euros, and revenue per available room at 89.68 euros.

Increase in hotel occupancies in Ankara

In December, hotel occupancies in Ankara saw a 9.4% increase to 57.1% compared to the same period in 2022. The average daily rate experienced a 13.9% increase to 83.85 euros, with revenue per available room seeing a 24.5% increase to 47.89 euros.

In 2023, hotel occupancies in Ankara were at 56.3%, with the average daily rate at 84.20 euros, and revenue per available room at 47.38 euros.

In 2002, hotel occupancies in Ankara were at 52.7%, with the average daily rate at 66.41 euros, and revenue per available room at 34.97 euros.

In December, hotel occupancies in Anatolia experienced a 5.9% decrease to 44.6% compared to the same period in 2022. The average daily rate saw a 16.6% increase to 61.36 euros, with revenue per available room experiencing a 9.7% increase to 27.35 euros.
