Greece increased its tourist numbers by 17.6 percent to 32.7 million and tourism revenue by 15.7 percent to 20.5 billion euros in 2023. Olga Kefalogianni, the Minister of Tourism of Greece, shared insights on the 2024 goals with the German business and tourism magazine, fvw.

Minister Olga Kefalogianni highlighted that 2024 will be an another record-breaking year for Greek tourism, underlining the focus on qualitative growth in the industry. She stressed the necessity for strong marketing efforts for lesser-known tourism destinations in the country, stating, "Above all, we aim for qualitative growth and must strike a balance for future generations to benefit from tourism. For instance, the Attica region could be a lever for visitors to stay longer in Athens. Currently, the average length of stay for guests in Athens is 2-3 nights. However, there are so many places to discover and beautiful beaches to visit around the capital."

Olga Kefalogianni noted that in 2023, Germany remained Greece's top source market with 4.8 million visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 4.6 million. She also added that there was a 9.5 percent increase in visitors from Germany in 2023.
